Opportunity Description

Our 95 years old veteran would like a patient and understanding volunteer available during any working day in the afternoon for a chat and possibly to take him out of the care home for a short walk in his wheelchair.

In spite of having regular contact with his daughters, another face will be very welcome.

Having been a seaman enlisted into the Royal Navy in 1943, after returning to civilian life he worked for many years on the All England Club – the venue for the Wimbledon Championships. Besides Tennis, our veteran is keen on Western movies.

If you think you can make the difference in his life, we look forward to hearing from you.

By providing regular companionship, social interaction and building a positive one-to-one relationship you can help to reduce the effects of isolation so commonly experienced by our veterans. Your positivity, friendliness and communication can make the world of difference to their day lives.

Volunteers need to be over the age of 18 years and able to travel independently to and from our veterans home. Reliability, punctuality and trustworthiness are essential requirements for this role as are good listening and interpersonal skills. As understanding of the importance of confidentiality and relationship boundaries is key to this role. We will give you the necessary training, induction and support to be confident and enjoy your volunteering.
