About this event:
Side by Side is an Alzheimer's Society service which helps people with dementia to do the things they love with the support of a volunteer. The extra support can make it easier for people with dementia, who might sometimes feel isolated, or find it difficult to leave their own homes, remain active and feel part of their local community.
Side by Side volunteers provide agreed support to people with dementia which could include supporting a person with dementia to go to their local park, making a weekly phone call, doing a crossword with someone who is in hospital, going to the cinema, pick up an old hobby, visit local museums or try a new leisure activity. The service is operating throughout the London Borough of Merton, so you can volunteer in a location that is convenient to you.
This role will suit you if you:
- Want to help people with dementia stay active.
- Have good verbal communication and listening skills, especially face to face.
- Are happy to volunteer remotely, yet understand you are part of a team.
A level of commitment is expected. For this service, there is a minimum of 6 months commitment once relevant checks have taken place.
The impact you'll make:
Your involvement aims to help people feel less isolated, enabling the person to focus on their strengths to remain active and confident.
