Opportunity Description

The ‘Merton Memory Bank’ project will provide opportunities for therapeutic heritage engagement to support local residents living with dementia. This will include the creation of a dementia friendly reminiscence zone at Merton Heritage Centre.


The project team will also develop a range of handling collections and

audio-visual displays, in addition to staging regular themed workshops to stimulate communication, interaction and the sharing of memories and life experiences.

Assist with the planning, research and delivery of delivery of themed reminiscence/craft sessions and the sourcing of materials for themed memory boxes to support group and independent learning / engagement for people living with dementia.

Skills & Experience


Ability to work within a team
Interest in/enthusiasm for local history
Good communication skills – including attention to detail in written work
Good IT knowledge (including use of internet, MS Word and Excel
Good timekeeping
Ability to work to a timetable



Experience or interest in working with audiences living with dementia

Training available:

Full library induction (library layout and relevant procedures; H&S training)
Training in developing handling collections
Training in delivering workshops
Training in basic conservation
Training in local studies research methods
Training in working with adults living with dementia
Training in the use of associated equipment/software



2. Time Commitment

Times when activity is available


October 2019 -  End of March 2020. Continuation after this date may be possible.




We are looking for an ongoing commitment over 6 months. Minimum commitment of 3 hours once or twice per week. Precise commitments to be agreed during induction.
